Green Card Visa – What is it?
What is a Permanent Resident Card? A Permanent Resident Card, commonly known as a Green Card, is evidence of your status as a lawful permanent resident with a right to live and work permanently in the United States. It also is evidence of your registration in accordance with United States immigration laws. The Permanent Resident Card is also called Form I-551.
Green Card visa holders have several privileges including:
- The right to live permanently in the United States
- The right to work in the United States
- The right to travel abroad for a certain period of time
- The opportunity to apply for U.S. citizenship after a certain amount of years as a Green Card holder
- The right to petition for a Green Card for the applicant’s spouse and any unmarried children under 21 years of age
here is a list of the various ways that you may qualify for a Green Card Visa:
- Family Based Immigration – Relatives of U.S. Citizens or a Green Card Visa holder
- Employment Based Immigration
- Green Card Lottery
- Investors
- Registry (Foreign Nationals who have resided continuously in the U.S. since January 1, 1972)
- Private Bill
- Diplomats
- Asylum
- Refugee
- Special situations – such as Religious Workers, Foreign medical graduates, etc.
